About Us
We are a group of 37 organizations from civil society, youth and students, business, professionals, and basic sectors who signed the petition, “Moves for Term Extension Will Not Die, Filipino Citizens Should Prepare for Action,” along with hundreds of other individual Filipinos here and abroad. This petition bound us to take a common action against the continuing push by the House of Representatives to change the Constitution through a Constituent Assembly. We are united in our determination to show the true power of democracy against any and all attempts to extend Mrs. Arroyo’s stay in power beyond 2010.
We know that Filipinos here and abroad hunger for good governance and leadership that our nation truly deserves. We have encountered ordinary citizens who are seriously alarmed about what is happening, and who are looking for ways to help the county out of the current crisis. They are call center employees, civil service retirees, housewives, members of homeowners’ associations, young professionals, small business owners, drivers, messengers, OFWs. They are not the indifferent, lethargic, disinterested, satisfied lot that Mrs. Arroyo claims them to be. They are aware, outraged, and engaged. We are one with them in their discontent and desire for change.
We continue to assert that the ultimate authority resides in us, the people, and we should not squander that by sitting idly by while Mrs. Arroyo usurps all power for herself. We must express with passion, commitment and vehemence our outrage at any attempt to extend her term even one day beyond June 30, 2010. She and her minions must understand that we are prepared to take concerted, sustained action to stand for our rights.
